Dental disease is one of the most common conditions affecting both dogs and cats. Imagine how your mouth would feel if you never brushed your teeth or if you tried to eat with an infected tooth. 

A thorough dental cleaning can only be performed with a pet under anesthesia. Our dental cleanings are performed using an ultrasonic scaler and polisher to remove the build-up of plaque and tartar on the teeth. A complete dental examination cannot be performed without dental x-rays, just like people receive at their dentist each year. Digital dental x-rays are taken to look at the parts of the teeth that are under the gum line, the parts that we can't see from the surface. Dental x-rays can show problems with the tooth roots, broken teeth, or even oral tumors. The pet is monitored by both a veterinary technician and the veterinarian while under anesthesia for the dental procedure. Following the dental cleaning, a member of our staff will go over home dental care techniques that may be used to help lengthen the time between dental visits. Most pets could benefit from a thorough dental cleaning once each year.
